The tradition of celebrating Guy Fawkes has just passed but so did the tradition of acting like idiots with fireworks.

Who Is Guy Fawkes?

In England they celebrate Bonfire Night, Guy Fawkes Day and Firework Night on the 5th of November each year. It dates back to the 5th of November 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes a member of the Gunpwder Plot tried to blow up the House of Lords. He failed and was arrested while he protected the explosives. King James celebrated this date each year for surviving the attempted assassination. The English people also lit bonfires around London then it became an enforced annual public day of thanksgiving.

Right so back to the special individuals who now celebrate Guy Fawks by exploding rockets as close to a mate as possible. This is one of the busiest nights for the Ambulance service. But it is great viewing and does look like great fun so here you go:

With the ability to turn normal everyday objects into zombie smashing tools of destruction you must prepare for a desperate fight and also be careful as your weapons deteriorate and become blunt.

The Techland developers are obviously passionate about the setting and storyline they've created, watch the chilling Dead Island trailer to see its full glory. This trailer is breathtaking with top quality graphics and a well created trailer it leaves you wanting to see more.

The player starts of as a guest of a hotel on holiday which turns into a living nightmare. The storyline is a group of remaining survivors set out to escape the island and get to freedom. Dead Island is a story-based experience but has the ability for co-operative play, which up to four gamers can drop in and out of the game without a glitch.

The storyline and graphics is not the only thing to keep the player interested. The players traits will also improve as you smash and slash your way through the game. Not many details have been released but apparently there will be a levelling system and a skill tree. As the player progresses, his stats will increase and he'll gain access to new combat abilities and animations.

Direct Bikes Road Trip

Matt from Direct Bikes went on a road trip of gigantic scale using his 125cc Tommy scooter. He started from Florence Italy and travelled all the way to London UK, which is over 1000 miles.

Video SEO - 2010 Online Marketing Strategies

Videos are becoming a much bigger part of the web and lots of companies starting to include them in their marketing strategies. One of the big examples of this is viral video which has really taken of in the past couple of years.

We can also see Google changing and is now including images, videos, news and other media types in its main search. So this is giving companies a real opportunity to dominate a search term in Google by having different types of media linking to their brand all over the result page.

The main type of media that has really interested me is video. People tend only to think about ranking in YouTube or Vimeo, but a trick often missed is actually ranking in Google. An example of this would be Ultra Magicard who don't have their site ranking for 'id card security' but have their own branded video which really stands out in the results. View now

The company involved in achieving this result is called 99moves and they only to do Video SEO. We will start to see more companies pop up that specialise in this field during 2010.

I think brands will really have start thinking about video SEO and get ahead of their competitors at this early stage.

The recent comments made by Tory MP Greg Hands surrounding the new NHS 60th anniversary logo, which cost £12,000 to create, has resulted in uproar in the design industry and has raised issues within the public sector (PS).

The original comments by Hands, were originally published by the Times on the 26th December 2009 (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article6968036.ece)

I understand the design industries reaction to the comments made by Hands, his comment of; “Modern graphic design [software] packages surely allow anyone with an average brain to design something as good as, or better than, what we see in front of us here”

first made steam blow out of my ears, but looking at the new NHS logo you can understand why someone of little design experience would think this. If you only look at the finished product of the NHS logo you might also question the high cost for this project. However, if you have ever worked with the public sector you might know of the tedious processes and meetings you have to go through to get a contract started, never mind completed.

Many companies say that when they take on public sector work there is rarely a clear proposal that provides a good understanding of what is required. This is followed by endless drawn out meetings where design ideas are pondered over by people with no relevant qualifications or experience who only know what they don’t like and invariably throw out the best ideas.

I believe the main problem is the projected processes the public sector is chained to which only makes it possible for large companies, that are geared up to cope with the bureaucratic process, to compete for PS contracts.

Greg Hands says; ‘Surely adding two digits doesn’t need to be outsourced at all. Civil servants can do this themselves.’ On the face of it £12,000 for what seems to be a poorly executed logo does seem excessive but what we don’t know is the journey the agency was put through to get to the point of the final design. It could well be that £12,000 doesn’t adequately compensate them for the time and commitment made? We don’t know.

What we do know is that if the Public Sector cleaned up and simplified the processes it uses to award and manage these outsource projects it would bring the agencies costs down. That in its self would make way for a larger variety of providers to have a chance to compete for PS contracts and this could bring considerable benefits.

Yahoo responds to Google with Twitter integration

Google recently integrated real time results into is search queries so Yahoo have responded by including Tweets in its results.

Yahoo hasn’t gone as far as Google because they only include Twitter results with the hottest topics. I still don’t think real time search is that useful and actually prevents you finding what you want to know. Yahoo has also added it to the bottom of their results instead of the middle.

I think this is something Yahoo has got right instead of Google but I would like to use their feature a bit more. I will have to start using Yahoo for once to test this out.

In the four weeks ending Oct. 3, 2009 Google has managed to get over 71% of all searches made in the US. This a huge piece of the market for one company to have which is scary but you can see why. Bing hasn't brought anything new to the search engine world and to be honest I would prefer Google to be in charge than Microsoft.

Google has recently brought out real time search in the US and the UK to battle the new search engine Bing. I think Google has won for now. They have also rolled out the personalised search so you no longer have to be logged in. I am sure Microsoft will be thinking of new ideas for Bing to contend with Google but I think they are a long way off.

Google has now introduced real time search into the UK. This is a good come back to Bing’s recent progress and shows the World that Google is still the number one search engine.

It will also benefit social sites like Twitter and will make them even more important in marketing campaigns. I can’t wait to try different searches to see how it will affect the clients I will work on.

Google's Personalised Search Good or Bad?

Google has recently rolled out its personalized search so it no longer depends weather you are logged in or not. Here is a snippet from Google's blog:

Today we're helping people get better search results by extending Personalized Search to signed-out users worldwide, and in more than forty languages. Now when you search using Google, we will be able to better provide you with the most relevant results possible. For example, since I always search for [recipes] and often click on results from epicurious.com, Google might rank epicurious.com higher on the results page the next time I look for recipes. Other times, when I'm looking for news about Cornell University's sports teams, I search for [big red]. Because I frequently click on www.cornellbigred.com, Google might show me this result first, instead of the Big Red soda company or others.

You can disable personalised search but it is easy to miss or you can disable cookies but most users will leave it on. I personally don't like the idea but I am in the SEO industry and I don't use Google like the average user. I think for the average Joe it will be beneficial. One example would be my Dad who uses Google for everything; if he wants to visit the John Lewis website instead of typing www.johnlewis.com into the URL bar he will type John Lewis into Google. Another search he does is 'football' to find the BBC football site which is the 7th or 8th listing in Google. Now this would benefit him because after a period of time it will push the BBC football page to the top.

It also makes me slightly concerned on how it will affect new websites ranking. The great thing about the web to me is the variety of ideas and different views which might get narrowed and reduced by the personalised search. I have not fully tested the personalised search and I will only find out the answers after fully using the new feature.

This is the ultimate weapon for your boss.

With limited accuracy it isn’t very good for long range shots. It is very effective for firing into a crowd of office workers and will cause a panic amongst them.

Blast Bazooka Foam Gun This is a devastating weapon and can make your enemy run in fear. To work the gun push the bazooka down inside and pump the handle up to eight times then fire away. It takes a while to load but has a good range and accuracy.

Ram Rocket This can fire up to 100 feet and will easily reach across most office spaces. It uses compressed air which is what gives it the power. It also has extremely good accuracy which is great for taking out the opposition’s leader who might be hiding at the back.

This simple grenade produces an ear splitting sound which forces your target to hold his hands over his ears. Once you have disarmed your enemy you can go in for the kill. Airzooka Air Gun This weapon fires a ball of air at your target which is surprisingly accurate. It doesn’t require batteries, electricity and most importantly ammunition it can also reach up to 30 feet. It might not be able to take the enemy down but it can distract and annoy.

Here is my favourite weapons on Resident Evil 5. I have chose these 5 for their stats, costs and how early on in the game you can find them. I am sure everybody has their own opinion on what are the best weapons so please leave comments because I will be interested to know.

#5 - H&K PSG1 (Sniper Rifle)

The H&K PSG1 sniper rifle is the least powerful of the three snipers but it’s accuracy and semi auto ability I think make it the greatest. This weapon can be useful for getting headshots and with its increased zoom you can pick off even the furthest enemies.

The MP5A5 is one of my favourite all round machine guns because it can be affective against weak and tough enemies. It might not be the strongest weapon and it doesn’t have the biggest capacity but it has double piercing which can be very useful against armoured opponents. I wouldn’t rely totally on this weapon but it’s a very good backup. It is also very cheap to upgrade and easy to find at the start of the game on chapter 2-1.

It is also a relatively cheap gun to upgrade and you can find it near the beginning of the game on chapter 3-3 near the jettys in the south. It's in a suitcase on the western path.

Another year of music, life and stuff brings us to the 12th Dragon Festival, a free festival celbrating the spring equinox. This year the Dragonfest is from 21st - 23rd March.
